Good Structure, but Old and Outdated
By Wrench
This book was probably the standard over 10 years ago, but now this text is almost completely outdated. While many of the main cases are still good law, many of the note cases have been overruled or modified by more recent decisions. This book really shows its age when you reach the section on the 11th Amendment as you will find that the Rehnquist Court made sweeping changes in this area.
Despite its age this book is still well organized, presenting fed jur in a manner that allows for the student to understand the sometimes many confusing aspects such as Fed Question jurisdiction and Erie.
If your professor makes you use this text, you had better hope that he supplements the materials with current caselaw.
If you want to buy a supplement for this text, I recommend the treatise by Chermensky.

One of the worst case books I've ever read, and I LOVE this topic
By Chappy
Just rhetorical question after rhetorical question that muddies up what you actually need to learn. Casebook authors should leave the "considering" and "pondering" to the actual professor. It's long, not well edited, and full of way too much detailed information that you will never need to know. As a 3L, this is one of the worst casebooks I've read. And, like the title says, I adore this topic - so it's not that I don't like the material. I'll happily read the cases all day - it's the "notes" that I dread.

This book does a good job of covering the material
By Christopher A Meyer
If I put 5 stars, then that would imply I "love" federal jurisdiction. This book does a good job of covering the material.
